Why do devices have IP Addresses?

An IP (internet protocol) address is similar to your home address. If you think about why your house has an address the answer is easy: so people can find you (the mailman, the pizza delivery, our friends, etc.)

The same logic applies to your gadgets that use the internet. When you visit a website you're sending a request over the internet asking the website to give back the page you're looking for.

Similar to a mailman delivering a letter to your home, if a website can't find your IP address then how do they know where to send the webpage you're trying to load.
